Getting in

Who can join the beta?

Anyone 18 or older with an iPhone or an Android phone. Joining is free.

  • iPhone: iOS 16 or later, and your own Apple Account.
  • Android: a phone with the Google Play Store app and a Google account.

Why do I have to be 18 or older?

Star Thrown has live chat with other players, including direct messages. To help keep children safe, the game is for adults only. You confirm you are 18 or older when you sign up on our site and again when you create your account in the game.

How do I join on iPhone?

TestFlight is Apple's own app for trying apps before they're released. It's made by Apple and free on the App Store, and Apple reviews our beta against its App Review Guidelines before it opens to testers.

  1. Sign up at starthrown.com/beta and pick iPhone.
  2. Install TestFlight from the App Store. It's listed by Apple. You only do this once.
  3. Tap our TestFlight link.
  4. Tap Accept, then tap Install.
  5. Open Star Thrown and create your account or sign in.

Your device needs iOS 16 or later. That is TestFlight's minimum.

How do I join on Android?

Use the same Google account for every step: the one signed in to your Play Store app.

  1. Sign up at starthrown.com/beta and pick Android.
  2. Open our Google Group link and tap Join group.
  3. Open our opt-in link and tap the button to become a tester.
  4. Go to the game's Play Store page and tap Install.
  5. Open Star Thrown and create your account or sign in.

You don't need a Gmail address. A Google account made with any email address works.

Can I use my school or work Apple Account?

Some can't. School and work Apple Accounts (Managed Apple Accounts) may be blocked from testing. If yours won't work, use your personal Apple Account.

I have two Google accounts on my phone. Which one do I use?

Use the account that is signed in to your Play Store app. Join the group, opt in and install with that one account. If you joined or opted in with a different account, the beta won't show up for you. Join and opt in again with your Play Store account.

I'm already in the Android internal test. What do I do?

Leave the internal test first, then join the beta. Google doesn't let someone in an internal test join this beta, even after they join the group.

Quick fix: make sure you are signed in with the right account, then tap the link again.

On iPhone:

  1. Check your device runs iOS 16 or later.
  2. Install TestFlight first, then tap our link again.
  3. If TestFlight says you can't accept, tap Learn More. It tells you why.

On Android:

  1. Check you joined our Google Group before opting in.
  2. Check you used the same Google account as your Play Store app for both.
  3. Wait a few minutes after opting in, then open the Play Store page again.
  4. Google offers the beta by the country your Google account is registered in, not where you are right now. If the beta isn't offered in your account's country, the game won't install.

Still stuck? Email support@starthrown.com. Tell us your phone model and what you see on screen.

No. Use the links from starthrown.com/beta. Beta versions are shared by invitation link, not through store search.

The beta itself

How long does the beta last?

The beta is one 18-day Speed Round.

Does the beta collect data?

Yes. The game sends crash reports and usage analytics. There is no in-game switch to turn them off. TestFlight and Google Play also share some test data with us, such as crashes and feedback you send.

Can I leave a public review of the beta?

No. Testers can't post public reviews of a test version. Send us feedback instead (see Feedback and support below).

Updates

How do I get an update on iPhone?

TestFlight tells you when an updated version is ready. Open TestFlight and tap Update next to Star Thrown. You can also turn on automatic updates in TestFlight.

Why did the game stop opening on my iPhone?

Each test version only works for 90 days. Open TestFlight and install the newest version.

How do I get an update on Android?

Updates arrive through the Play Store, like any other app. Google checks each update first, so it can take a few hours, sometimes longer, before it reaches you. If you don't see it, open the game's Play Store page and tap Update if it's there.

Purchases

Do I pay for purchases in the beta?

No. Test purchases are not charged in the beta.

  • iPhone: TestFlight always uses Apple's test mode, so you are not charged.
  • Android: beta testers are set up as test buyers. The purchase screen shows a test-purchase notice before you confirm.

Why didn't I get a receipt email for my purchase?

Apple doesn't send receipt or refund emails for test purchases. That is normal in the beta.

Why does my Purchase History say "Free"?

That marks a test purchase. You were not charged. To see it, go to Account Settings, tap Purchases, and look at Purchase History in your Wallet.

Will my progress or purchases carry over to launch?

No. The beta is a test, so your progress and anything you get in it, purchases included, stay in the beta. Everyone starts fresh at launch.

Feedback and support

How do I report a bug or send feedback?

Use whichever is easiest. We read all three.

  • In the game: open Help from the game menu. Under Contact Support, tap Submit a Ticket, pick the Issue Type that fits (Bug Report for bugs), describe what happened (up to 500 characters), then tap Submit Ticket. Save the Ticket # you see. You must be signed in to send a ticket.
  • Email: support@starthrown.com. Tell us what happened and which phone you use. Screenshots help. If you already sent a ticket, put its Ticket # in the subject line.
  • Discord: post in #bug-reports on our Discord. Search first, and add to an existing post if your bug is already there.

Where do account or purchase problems go?

Send an in-game ticket or email support@starthrown.com. Please don't post account or purchase details on Discord: it's public.

Is there a Discord?

Yes: discord.gg/vVs73yb7wU. Beta announcements, help, bug reports and feedback all live there.

Leaving the beta

How do I leave the beta on iPhone?

Open TestFlight, tap Star Thrown, and tap Stop Testing. You can also delete the app.

How do I leave the beta on Android?

In the Play Store app: tap your profile picture → Manage apps & devices → Beta → Star Thrown → Leave.

If you can, please stay in the beta for at least 14 days. It really helps us.
