Command Captains Guide

Captains are commanders you assign to your fleets. A good captain makes your ships hit harder, dodge more damage, and fire sooner. They earn experience from every battle, which you spend as points to make them stronger.

What Is a Captain?

Each of your fleets can have one Captain assigned to it. While a Captain is assigned, they improve the fleet's combat performance and earn experience from every battle the fleet fights.

Captains have three stats: Attack, Dodge, and Speed. You build these stats up yourself by spending points you earn as the captain gains experience.

What the Three Stats Do

Attack increases the damage every non-EMP ship in your fleet deals in battle. EMP ships disable enemies instead, so Attack does not boost them. More attack means more enemy ships destroyed per tier.

Dodge reduces the damage that gets past your fleet's own shields. A high-dodge fleet is harder to hurt. See Combat 101 for how dodge fits into the damage calculation.

Speed determines what order your ships fire in. Ships act in speed tiers — higher speed means your ships fire in an earlier tier, before slower enemies get a chance to shoot back. A captain with high speed can push your fleet into an earlier tier, letting you land hits before taking damage.

How Captains Gain Experience

After every battle, each participating captain earns XP. Winning earns more XP than losing. XP accumulates in the captain's record.

When a captain has enough XP relative to their current level, they earn available stat points — points you can spend to increase Attack, Dodge, or Speed. Spending a stat point also raises the captain's level. Each level brings your captain one step closer to their maximum potential.

Assigning a Captain to a Fleet

Captain assignments are managed from the Command Fleet tab, not from the Captains tab.

  1. Open the Command panel and tap the Fleet tab.
  2. Find the fleet you want to assign a captain to.
  3. In Fleet Setup, tap the button in the Captain row under that fleet (it shows the current captain's name, or None). You can change a fleet's captain while that fleet is at your Base and not recovering from a battle.
  4. A panel opens showing your available captains. Select one and confirm.

One captain can only be assigned to one fleet at a time. If you reassign a captain to a different fleet, they leave their current fleet and move to the new one. The fleet they left will have no captain until you assign another.

Growing Your Captain Roster

The Captains tab is where you manage XP and spend stat points.

Spending Training Credits

Tap Train to spend one Training Credit. Each training roll has a chance to either unlock a new captain or add XP to your available XP pool.

  • If you unlock a captain you do not already have, they are added to your roster immediately.
  • If you roll a captain you already own, the XP goes directly to that captain instead.

Each tap of Train spends one Credit and rolls right away.

Assigning XP to a Captain

When a training roll gives XP instead of a captain, that XP goes into a shared pool first. You decide which captain gets it.

  1. In the Captains tab, go to the Assign XP section.
  2. Select a captain from the dropdown.
  3. Enter the amount of XP you want to move to that captain.
  4. Tap Assign.

You cannot assign more XP than your available pool holds.

Spending Stat Points

Once a captain has enough XP to earn stat points, you can spend them.

  1. In the Captains tab, go to the Assign Points section.
  2. Select the captain from the dropdown.
  3. Choose the stat you want to improve: ATK (Attack), SPD (Speed), or DOG (Dodge).
  4. Enter the number of points to spend and tap Assign.

Each point you spend raises that stat by one and increases the captain's level by one. Raising stats also contributes to your Stardom's overall value.

Choosing the Right Captain

Not every captain fits every situation.

  • Attack-focused captains suit aggressive fleets going on the offensive — more damage per tier means battles end faster, which reduces your own losses.
  • Dodge-focused captains suit fleets you want to keep alive, especially defenders or fleets facing heavy opposition. High dodge is effective when your fleet has already lost its shields.
  • Speed-focused captains are most valuable when the difference between acting one tier earlier or later is the difference between your ships firing first or not at all. A speed edge matters most in close, high-value fights.

You do not have to specialise. A captain who improves multiple stats is flexible, but one who excels in one area can tilt a specific scenario decisively.

Think about what you need a fleet to do before you spend points. Points cannot be undone.

Things Worth Knowing

  • Captains earn XP whether your fleet wins or loses. Wins give more XP, but every battle counts. A captain on an active fleet grows faster than one sitting idle.
  • The Train button has no undo. Training Credits are consumed the moment you tap. There is no "are you sure?" prompt.
  • If you roll a captain you already own, the XP from the roll goes straight to that captain instead of your shared XP pool.
  • A captain leads one fleet at a time. Assigning a captain to a different fleet takes them off their current one. A fleet's own captain button works only while that fleet is at your Base and not recovering from a battle, so plan assignments before sending a fleet out.
  • Stat points cannot be moved between captains. Once spent, points are permanent on that captain. Choose your captain before you invest heavily in them.
